We had a chance to get out and enjoy the great outdoors last weekend across western ND to include the Badlands, Dakota Zoo, and Superslide Amusement Park! To begin with our trip out west, the kids slept for a better part of the drive (that was wonderful) and we were able to appreciate how amazingly green things were out west. The Painted Canyon came to life and we caught a glimpse of a buffalo grazing in the distance while some trail riders were just about to embark on their ride. In Medora, it was all a buzz with people roaming in and out of shops, grabbing some saltwater taffy and of course stopping to listen to Cowboy Lyle tell his story. The kids spent tons of energy playing at the Medora Children’s park before heading up to the Pitch Fork Fondue. The Medora Musical was phenomenal and we were all on the edge of our seats watching the Chinese Acrobats. Where else can your kids actually get up on stage with professional performers?!! After a good night’s rest, we enjoyed a round of golf at Bully Pulpit and a drive through Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It was the first time that I have seen wild horses perched on the side of the road with a buffalo only 100 feet away.
Back in Bismarck, we decided to take in the Dakota Zoo where it just happen to be kids day. WOW. The kids were able to operate a real fire hose, sit in a fire truck, and play games through the entire walk. When I asked what they enjoyed the most, they both liked the “Big Cat” exhibit (or Big Kitty) as my son lovingly referred to the Siberian Tiger. The Superslide Amusement Park was also a hit with many trips up and down the super slide, rides on the ferris wheel and coming soon is the new roller coaster which looks like a fun one.
We had some terrific experiences in North Dakota this weekend and are already looking forward to our next outing.
