Get Some March Madness in ND

You know that saying, “March comes in like a lion“?  I’m curious if there’s a connection to the roar of crowds during playoffs and tournaments?  It’s March Madness month and that certainly doesn’t leave out North Dakota.  There’s still time to catch some slam-dunk fever court-side at a Dakota Wizards game or at this weekend’s Summit League Quarterfinal round – let’s go Bison!

And with the Final Five just around the corner it’s time to cheer on #1 ranked University of North Dakota.  The Fargo Force and Bismarck Bobcats are both defending titles this season as well.

Let your roar out in North Dakota this March!

Marney’s Top 10 Legendary experiences

If you follow sports in Minnesota, you’re probably familiar with Fox Sports North host Marney Gellner.  Last month, Marney was back in her home state of North Dakota covering the University of North Dakota vs. University of Minnesota men’s hockey series in Grand Forks.  In preparation for the big weekend, Marney prepared two segments featuring her favorite 10 places or experiences in North Dakota.

If you missed it when it aired, you can still see Marney’s favs.  Here’s countdown 10-to-6 and countdown 5-to-1.

Marney also did pre-game interviews with North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple and fishing personality Jason Mitchell, of the FSN aired Jason Mitchell Outdoors program.  Especially fun is when Governor Dalrymple accurately predicts the game’s final score (and North Dakota’s win)!

Marney Gellner is legendary – RU?

UND former player named MVP as Chicago wins Stanley Cup

With a 4-3 overtime win in Philadelphia last night, Jonathan Toews and the Blackhawks captured the Stanley cup championship. It was the first Cup for the Blackhawks in 49 years. Toews was just 19- years old and an All-American that played for North Dakota’s Fighting Sioux when the Blackhawks signed him in the summer of 2007. Just 3 years later, 22- year old Toews first accepted the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. Then, he returned to the podium to accept hockey’s greatest prize. Toews is the 24th member and the youngest to be called “Triple Gold Club”, something they call players who have won the World Men’s Championship, Olympics and Stanley Cup. Toews is the first WCHA player to ever captain a team to a Stanley Cup. He’s also the first WCHA player to win Conn Smythe.
