It’s Hunting Time!

The Minnesota crew, 2008

The Minnesota crew, 2008

Tonight, we’re expecting a group of men from Minnesota to ring the doorbell at our house.  This is an annual voyage.  A manly type of event.  You see, it’s hunting season – undeniably one of the most popular times of the year in North Dakota.  My husband and his buddies load up the dogs and the gear and will be in pursuit of geese, sharptail and maybe even a walleye.  That’s the thing about North Dakota, it’s bountiful for many reasons and on a three-day adventure you can have three different pursuits.  I just read a column, written by Sam Cook of the Duluth News Tribute, which talked about the friendliness hunters find in North Dakota too.  Thanks Sam; be sure to visit again soon!

For information on public lands available to hunters (PLOTS) in North Dakota, seasons, licensing and regulations, visit the North Dakota Game and Fish Department website.  And most of all:  Good luck!

Scenic Lake Oahe is back

Lake Oahe

Lake Oahe

Talk about a gorgeous weekend!  Campgrounds were hopping, and so were the fish.  Lake Oahe looked like glass on Saturday evening.  Earlier in the day, the sandbars on the Missouri River were like little party islands.  Have I mentioned lately how much I love North Dakota?

Top Towns for Sportsmen

Outdoor Life magazine has put Bismarck #6 on its top 200 list of top towns for sportsmen. The magazine gave Bismarck high-marks on its fishable species, huntable speices, public-land access, trophy potential and gun laws.

Other ND towns on the list include: Williston (24), Devils Lake (29), Jamestown (90) and Dickinson (103).

We moved from Minnesota to ND almost four years ago, and my Minnesota-born husband has definitely become a North Dakota-convert … for all the reasons Outdoor Life points out.  Outdoor Life – Top 200 Towns
